Katie Scheidler, daughter of Dan and Anne Scheidler, is a biology major in the Xavier class of 2013. Katie graduated from Delta High School in Muncie, Indiana in 2009.
While at Xavier Katie has participated in the Brueggeman Fellows program, Alternative Breaks program, the Interfaith Medical Mission trip to Guatemala, retreat teams though the Dorothy Day Center for Faith and Justice, and work at the Learning Assistance Center and the O'Connor Sports Center. After Xavier, Katie plans to do a year of service before attending medical school.
Over the summer break 2012 Katie's travels include Guatemala, Nicaragua, and El Salvador. Katie will be looking into the importance of clean drinking water in a rural Mayan village in Guatemala and the health disparities present from rural to urban Latin American life.
Katie will be interviewing and living with the people in the village to further understand the impact and importance of health on this community.
